Hockey New Brunswick statement on Return to Hockey
Hockey New Brunswick is monitoring all information updates from the Government of New Brunswick’s
Public Health Office. The Government has
announced that rinks and low contact sports can return as of June 5
th.
Earlier today, Hockey Canada
announced that a reinstatement of hockey within each Provincial branch will be in accordance with applicable provincial Public Health directives.
Given the above direction from Public Health and Hockey Canada, the Hockey New Brunswick Board of Directors have determined the following:
- Effective June 6th, off-ice sanctioned events will be permitted on the condition that the Government of New Brunswick directives and guidelines are followed, and an Operational Plan for such activities is submitted to Hockey New Brunswick.
- Hockey New Brunswick has developed work groups to create an Operational Plan for the return of on-ice sanctioned activities. The work groups are made up of subject matter experts, HNB board, council, commission members and minor hockey representatives from across the province. The Operational Plan will be in accordance with the directives and guidelines that have been developed by the Government of New Brunswick, as well as the Hockey Canada Safety Guidelines.
- Return to hockey in New Brunswick will proceed with a phased in approach. Phase 1, which is tentatively scheduled to begin on August 1, 2020 will be specific to Development based activities. Requests to begin Development programs prior to August 1st, will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
